Automated warehouses

The advantages of automated warehouses

The modern logics of production, storage and shipment of goods require increasingly efficient and responsive systems. In order to arrange shipments in a shorter time, reducing as much as possible the errors and keeping under strict control the costs, all the attention is focused on the logistic processes.

It comes natural to think about the introduction of automatic warehouses as a solution that combines the guarantee of high performance with the best exploitation of space.

The importance of these warehouses’ design is also evident from the incentives that the Italian Government has made available to companies, thanks to the Tax Credit. This is a huge advantage on the purchase of goods that allow the technological improvement of companies.

Automatic pallet warehouse: the organization of space

Organizing and managing a fast and efficient warehouse has become indispensable in the logistics sector, as it allows each type of enterprise to radically improve its business. Automatic warehouses are the ideal solution to start this optimization, and are composed of 3 essential elements:

  • supporting structure (intensive shelving system)
  • stacker (automatic machine for the storage of load units in height and depth)
  • handling (automated transport that takes goods from production to warehouse and from warehouse to shipment)

The three elements listed above are integrated at a functional level by a special software, customized on the needs of each customer, which guides the input (storage) and output (withdrawal) operations materials by virtue of production flows and customer orders, making every operation fluid, traceable and organic.

When designing an automated warehouse, other key aspects that are carefully evaluated include:

  • layout of the area
  • characteristics of the loading unit
  • timing and mode of storage

Once these elements have been thoroughly studied, the warehouse structure is designed and the automation technologies most suited to the needs of customers are identified, with the support of partners specialized in the so-called automation business.

Our experience in the design of steel structural systems, such as shelving systems and mezzanines, allows us to fully design and build a rational warehouse, starting from an analysis of space, materials to be stored, flows, timing and, consequently, the expected performance of the warehouse itself.

The acquired know-how counts us among the leaders in the development of the intelligent warehouse through the optimization of the spaces. For this reason our facilities are perfectly adapted to the available sizes and the surrounding context.

Each automatic warehouse is therefore a real suit tailored to the customer, designed for the best possible performance while respecting the available space and budget, arriving at a performance solution that can accompany the customer in its growth in terms of storage volumes and service to its customers.

Automated warehouses can be used to store goods of different load units such as pallets, boxes, crates and profiles or tubes of different lengths. In each of the cases mentioned, we adopt specific machines such as stackers, shuttle and miniload systems, each of which requires special specifications that our shelving systems guarantee, integrating perfectly.

Pallet-racks and intelligent warehouse logistics

Automated pallet warehouses are one of the most suitable solutions for handling goods on multiple levels.

These are industrial metal racks that can improve warehouse logistics, even if the main activity requires the handling of heavy goods, where in most cases the shelf becomes itself the supporting structure that can be closed with panels of different sizes, finishes and thicknesses that can also be used in refrigerated environments.

It is precisely in this last application that the self-supporting solution is preferable, as thanks to the thermal insulation guaranteed by suitable panels, it brings considerable energy savings, making the refrigerating motors work as strictly necessary.

This is a system that Scaffsystem can realize, thanks to the synergy with the best partners of the field, becoming the main interlocutor of the digital transition in the logistic field.
